Tracking Calories & Macros

Ok, I have a love and hate relationship with tracking my calories. When I’m on it, I’m on it and when I’m not… Well, that’s another story.

When it comes to tools though, I love Nutracheck and honestly find it outshines other calorie trackers like MyFitnessPal. It offers better guidance, affordability, and an intuitive interface. Available on iPhone, Android, and desktop, it also features community forums for extra support.

Exercise & Activity Tracking

You might be about to notice a theme.

Because I also have a love hate relationship when it comes to tracking exercise & activity! I think this comes from the fact that sometimes I want to be ‘disconnected’. If I go to the gym, especially when it is for mindfulness and mental help, the last thing I want to do is look at a screen and worry about remembering to note down exercises and weights.

Yes, that does affect my plan sometimes but for me that is thew pay off. When I do track, I would say that my Apple Watch has been the best thing. I tried Whoop and really didn’t get on with it. I thought it might be a good mix between not wanting screens but wanting to track. It wasn’t.

Anyway, with my Apple Watch it helps to keeps me motivated and active. It tracks workouts, monitors heart rate, and reminds me to take breaks. I’ve realised that I can turn off notifications to avoid overwhelm. It makes a huge difference to me. You can customise it to suit your needs, of course!

Not So Typical Fitness Hub

Not So Typical Fitness is all about making fitness accessible, inclusive, and sustainable. This free resource hub is designed to be clear and practical guidance on fitness, nutrition, and mindset. There is no overwhelming jargon or unrealistic expectations. Fitness should work for you, not the other way around.

Well-being Resources

Fidget toys are pretty subjective, but I love anything squishy. I have multiple squishmallow key-rings that I take with me out and about and they are lifesavers. The concept is having something in your hands to fiddle with which helps to keep me calm.

Noise-Canceling Headphones: Seriously, you need a pair to block out unwanted noise. Use them at the gym, while traveling, or in busy and overwhelming places. I have two favourites and use them both equally I think.

My Bose Quiet Comfort (great for cardio) and my Apple AirPods Pro (great for shopping and general gym activities).

I’m always on the lookout for more sensory friendly resources and products to add to this list. If there’s something you think should be on this list let me know. If you have any questions, please reach out to me here.

Sensory Support

If you struggle with sensory overwhelm, Loop Earplugs are a game-changer. I have three pairs and use them daily. At the gym, while traveling, or in busy environments. They’ve been life-changing honestly, for enabling me to manage my sensory challenges and are even comfortable to sleep in. Highly recommended for anyone who needs extra sensory support.

While not suitable for gym wear due to health and safety, I never leave the house without my sunflower lanyard. It’s a helpful reminder that it’s okay to ask for help and take breaks when things feel overwhelming.
